difference between shunt coil and tripping coil..

Answer / p.ramkumar

The purpose of shunt coil is only for remote tripping
purpose.Whenever we want to trip the breaker from remote
operation it will used. But Tripcoil is used to serve the
purpose of tripping the breaker while current exceeds the
certain limit(Due to overload or fault). This is the basic
differece between shunt & trip coil.I hope everbody
understood what i could said.

difference between shunt coil and tripping coil..

Answer / sai srinivas

The purpose of shunt coil is only for remote tripping
purpose. Shunt coil is winded coil. MCB can be tripped manually by pressing one plastic liver connected to contacts. If the MCB need to trip not for Over load or other faults, this shunt coil will be used. For example if fire occurs in AC plant room then to avoid spread of flame the AC plant must switched off automatically. Then this shunt coil is used. Shunt coil is connected to neutral and phase is connected via fire protection panel i.e phase wire from MV panel goes to fire panel and return back to shunt coil. Under normal condition the contacts in fire panel will ne Normally open, under fire condition, relay in fire plant acts and NO contacts becomes NC and supplies to shunt coil and pushes the MCB lever. then MCB trips which switches off supply. So trip the breaker from remote operation it will used. But Tripcoil is used to serve the purpose of tripping the breaker while current exceeds the certain limit(Due to overload or fault). This is the basic differece between shunt & trip coil.

difference between shunt coil and tripping coil..

Answer / arshad

Remember trip coil is nothing but just a current transformer (CT) with high precision. When excess current flows through line the coil (Rogowski Coil) energies and save/protect the line and instruments.

And shunt closing coil only remote operated and voltage (24VDC, 48VDC, 110VAC, 240VAC) operated. It does not protect line/instruments against over-current/fault.

difference between shunt coil and tripping coil..

Answer / ravishankar.ck

There are to methods of tripping the MCCN, ACb, VCB or SF6 one is Shunt trip operated by DC voltage or AC Another is Series trip works or current
with small voltage developed by CT which does not require any auxiliary supply coil and trip coil As it the shunt trip must be tripped with auxiliary supply this can also be used for tripping during the fault using protective relays. The relay will sense the voltage or current excesses beyond preset value through CT/PT and gives a xommand to shut trip coil and trips breaker LT, HT or EHT

difference between shunt coil and tripping coil..

Answer / andrea vanni

shunt coil is not good for safety purpose use, but only for normal operation (usually to close the brk).
For safety purpose, it is necessary to apply the "fail safe" logic, then an undervoltage release coil shall be used.
usually on MV switchgear we have one closing coil shunt type, and two opening coils undervoltage release operated: one for trip commands, one for normal opening.

difference between shunt coil and tripping coil..

Answer / jignesh

i think both r same according ot technical point of view.
when the triping coil seeds the current from above limit then it will trip the mcb and in shunt trip when you give the supply current pass in the coil and increase continuously when
it reach at limit it trip the mcb.

so both are same from technical view.

difference between shunt coil and tripping coil..

Answer / karna

Shunt coil means it mainly used in MCCB and the Tripping
coil means it mainly used in ACb or VCB or Breakers.
Both are doing same function only i.e Tripping the breaker.
Application wise both are using in different areas ( MCCB
and ACB)
