Disconnect the capacitor from the supply and test the
capacitor terminals with a volt meter, you should have the
same voltage at these terminals as the supply voltage the
capacitor was connected to (you should probably not leave
it too long before you test the capacitor as some
capacitors tend to discharge b y themselves over time).
or you can discharge the capacitor by shorting the
terminals WITH A RESISTIVE LOAD you should never short out
a capacitor with that sort of voltage, it will be
danegerous, by using a resistive load, it will take longer
but it will be safer at least.
once you have discharged the capacitor, most decent
multimeters will have a capacitive test function, just test
the capacitor at the terminals and compare the value with
the value written on the side of the capacitpr and this
will also give you an indication of the its condition..
otherwise, call an electrician...

CONNECT THE CAPACITOR TO THE SUPPLY.
CHECK THE AMPS
NOTE THE RATED AMPS IN NAME PLATE OF CAPACITOR.
IF BOTH ARE EQUAL (+ OR - 2AMPS), THEN THE CAPACITOR IS OK

Switch off the all capacitor bank except one whcih u want
to check, if pf value decreasing the same time then its not
good, other capacitor can be check as same procedure.
Don't short cerkit.....
It will be dangerious.........

check the Cpacitor Rating ( KVR) and put in the Clamp
meter take Amps
For Example = 25 KVR Capacitor
= 34 Amps ( good Condition)

if the capacitor connected in capacitor bank switch off all
the capacitors except the capacitor want to test if thepf
decreasing at the moment capacitor is not good .
never short the terminals .........

Answer / hmt
chrge it for sometime.
and then remove supply and short the terminals, if you see
a spark or here some noise then they are working fine!else
they are not good for use.

My non fail proof but handy way is to remove the cap. from
the circuit and connect your VOM to the terminals and watch
the voltage dissipate. The set the VOM to Ohms and
reconnect the meter to the cap. and you should see the
resistance steadily go up close to infinity. You are
actually charging the cap. with the battery in the VOM.
Then recheck the voltage and you should have a low charge
and then it will dissipate again. Good cap. via non fail
proof test.

First charge the capacitor. After charging use multimeter.
If the multimeter shows any deflection, then the capacitor
is in good condition.
We can also check by connecting the two terminals, but this
is not the proper and safety way.
