case of slab?

Answer / sjtbehera
in a slabs the shorter sapn is to be consider design.so the
main bar is kept lower and longer direction are bar is to
kept bind to main reinforcement.
Main bars are designed to load the bending moment, super
imposed laod and stress develop. the distribution bar are
distribute of stress caused by the super imposed laod,
tempreature variation and shirnkage.

For one way slab, short span is considered in the design of
slab. So the main reif. are provinding along the short span

Answer / vinod
Maximum bending of a slab takes place along the long span
only. Hence if the reinforcement is placed across the long
span, this moment will be counteracted. If this moment is
nullified, the other direction moment also will be
nullified. Hence minimum reinforcement will be sufficient
for the other direction moment.

in one way slabs, one direction loading slabs, deflection as well as bending moment is critical or significant in shorter direction because of nature. Just think about, the delfection of Rectangular thin paper(i.e, one way load dustribution). That's why, shorter direction is the main steel.

Bending moment of shorter span is smaller then the longer span...The reinforcement is provided based on bending moment.....If we provide main rod at longer span we need to provide more reinforcement ,when we compare to the shorter span.....so we provide reinforcement at shorter span as main rod...........I think so............

THE MOMENT OF INERTIA OF SHORTER SPAN IS LESS THAN ITS
LONGER SPAN,SLAB ALWAYS FAILS IN ITS SHORTER DIRECTION DATS
WHY WE PROVIDE MAIN REINFORCEMENT IN SHORTER SPAN.

in one way slab load carries only in shorter span..but in two way slab its carries both the directin..while we r fixing the main bar in shorter span.its will transmit the load and retain the bending moment...

Answer / ganesh
Bending moment is more on longer span of the slab when compared on shorter span. Since B.M. is directly proportional to length main steel is provided on the shorter span of the slab.

Design a cantilever type retaining wall to retain sand for 4m above the ground. The sand fall slopes at the rate of 1 vertical to 2 horizontal. The weight of sand is 18000 N/m3, the angle of repose being 30. The safe bearing capacity of the soil is 200 kn/m2 at 1/25m below the ground level. Use m 15 concrete mix.
