why main steel is to be reinforced in shorter direction in
case of slab?
Answer Posted / vinod
Maximum bending of a slab takes place along the long span
only. Hence if the reinforcement is placed across the long
span, this moment will be counteracted. If this moment is
nullified, the other direction moment also will be
nullified. Hence minimum reinforcement will be sufficient
for the other direction moment.
