to improve the existing power factor whether capacitors
have to be added in series or parallel.and why

Answer / ramesh pachamal
The capacitor must be connected in parrallel tothe load.
The capasitive reactance value will be add in parallel. The
Power factor is dependsup the capasitive reactance. To give
lead power factor the value of capasitance should be more.
For the reason we add capacitance connecting parallel

as we all know that the capacitor takes the leading current
thus the total current taken by the device also have a
leading current....as generally our load is inductive in
nature, which takes the lagging current, thus the
capacitive current also compensate the lagging current
causing the powert factor to improve

Answer / shahulsnfa
the capacitors should be connected parallel to the load,
then only for both the cycles of ac supply it provides
leading power factor, or else only one half cycle of the
supply power factor is improved.
