A ballast & ignitor is required in MH & other lighting
fixture because its takes high voltage in starting and
normal voltage in running periods.

They create high voltage initially to strike the arc, then
the ballast limits the current as the resistance of the bulb
becomes zero due to ionization.

in an ac series circuit there are 30 bulbs are connected in a serial set.what will happen if one bulb is fused and we removed the bulb and reconnect with the remaining bulbs? (29 bulbs). will the brightness of other bulbs increase or not?
