ciruit breaker operates on load but isolaters are operated
on no load or to isolate the healthy system.

The circuit breaker can operate in both ON load and OFF load
because quenching medium is available to extinguish the arc
but in case of isolator, it should operate in OFF load
only because of no quenching medium.

c.b is protective equipment which is used to
protect tran. line in abnormal condition. we can operate
c.b. manualy as well as automaticaly .
while isolater is also protective equipment . but
isolater cant be operated automatically .
in normal condition isolater contacts are closed .
but c.b. is opened ........

In the simplest form:
An ISOLATOR is a manual circuit breaker while Circuit
Breaker does this with the help of a relay.
Regarding the arc quenching medium, isolator too have air
as arc quenching medium.
And,
An iso. is an off-load device but a CB is onload.

we have one ups its neutral is not earthed.its one distribution MCB has a earth fault.but we can not put off any MCB.so how to find out that in which circuit is earthed without isolating the breaker.
