Dear mathew we use earthing for protection of equipment as
well as operating person only if when fault current can
find its path to ground. in case of aeroplane there is no
nead of earthing as leakage current does not find ground
path. Second thing is that aircraft gets several million
volts of static charge when it flies in sky, hence it is
completely discharged with special dedicate discharge
system, when it lends to ground. Otherwise this charge may
get find path through passenger to ground, when they came
out of plane . It will cause immidiate death of passenger.

The aircraft outer body is made of highly conductive material and insulated with the inner body. In the air Craft outer body gets charged statically which is of very high value.the design is so made that charge tries to remains at the outer surface of the craft. At the time of landing a strip type part touch the ground and all the charged decay in the earth without any damage of anything.

when the aircraft is in the air, to protect the plane from
a lightning strike, aircraft earthing is done.
the whole of the outer body is made up of a good conducror
of electricity(alluminium) and this outer body is insulated
from the other parts of the plane. when the lightning
strikes, the whole body of the plane acts as a conductor
and the lightning continues even after the length of the
plane and also may reach the earth. The inner surface of
the plane and thus the passengers are not affected by the
strike

we use the neutral(_)for small short circuit current in
aircraft electric system.

while moving through the air, plane charges up. But in the
plane there are sharp line in the wings. So charge density
at these points increases too much, and point ejection of
charges takes place.
