We are doing the impulse tubing work on HP &/LP side DP
transmitter for level measurement of atmospheric close or
open vessel as per the process application. If the LP side
of tubing is filled with suitable fluid (water or process
fluid), it is called wet leg. Under this circumtances, the
transmitter zero condition will be towards negative
pressure range equivalent to the pressure head of filled
fluid in the LP side tubing. Vice versa if side of tubing
is not filled any fluid & kept empty i.e.dry, it is called
as dry leg. Under this condition, the transmitter zero
condition will not be towards negative pressure range.

If the impulse line connected to the low side of the differential pressure instrument is filled with a suitable fluid, it's called (wet leg).
If the impulse line is empty, it's called (dry leg).
Dry leg & Wet leg is a technique used in differential pressure measuremnt for 2 main reasons:
1 - We use (wet leg) to prevent the dangerous fluid from harming the sensitive instrument.
2 - In closed tank application, we use (wet leg) to prevent vapour condenstion due to temperature variation, so we get a stable/accurate measurement.
Good Luck

Answer / ranish
Generally dry leg means without water ex: temperature
measurement thermo meter with out cloth or shield directily
to atm and with cloth ( we want to make it wet for
measurement)and subjected to atm or process
by ranish

If I want to buy a pressure switch & 3-way valve for hot water application then witch parameter I should consider.
I am having a Phoenix digital to modbus converter. The o/p of the same is connected to flow computer FB407. But the digital signals are updated only after one minute in the flow computer. what may be the cause of delay in communication? Flow computer is having a scanning period of less than 1 sec.
why we are using digital signals for I/O & how to measure this signals is getting or not ?
1. How many output signals do wew have in process control? 2. Could you write down the names of the pre-commissioning and commissioning stage test instruments and explain them (more than 5 items)? 3. What is the first step to commission a transmitter on service? 4. What is RTD? 5. Find the output value in MA of a temperature transmitter (RTD Type) at 120degree celius? 6. What is the O/P signal of a pneumatic transmitter? 7. What is the O/P signal of an elctronic transmitter? 8. What is the close loop and open loon?
in the boiler in the main steam line and its bypass line and the startup vent vales are only motorised valves why cant we use other types of valves such as pneumatic.
How do you troubleshoot accelerometers used in Vibration monitoring/tripping
how to measure the output of RTD given the general formula of rtd.
why we are using analytical instrument in plant ?
what are turbo generators?
Can any one tell me what type of question asked for instrumentation and control interview panel??? pls mail ramashankar.goel@gmail.com
