two bolbs of 100w and 40w respectively connected in series
across a 230v supply.which bolb will glow bright and why?

Answer / jigyesh sharma
SINCE TWO BULBS ARE IN SERIES THEY WILL GET EQUAL AMOUNT OF
CURRENT.
BUT AS THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE IS CONSTANT SO BY EQN.P=V^2/R;
SO RESUSTANCE OF 40W BULB WILL BE MORE.
VOLTAGE ACROSS 40 W WILL BE MORE AS V=IR;
SO IT WILL GLOW BRIGTER;

40W bulb will glow efficiently.
Because, Current in series connection is always same and
voltage is divided.
here, resistance of 40W bulb is higher than 100W bulb.
so current required to glow a 40W bulb is less than 100W
bulb(it is quite appeared from ratings).so current flowing
from the cicuit is according to the eq.resistance of both
bulb and that would not exceed that current,which can blow
off 40W bulb and less than current which fully glow the
100W bulb.remember formula I=V\R.
(note that bulb is purely resistive load)

Dear Friends,
1. When bulb are connected in series "CURRENT" is same , While "VOLTAGE" will be "DIVIDED" Across Each Ckt According to the Position of the circuit connected (As in Increase order)
2. And Voltage Is directly proportional to Light. If voltage is high than it will glow brightly and if voltage is low it will dim.
3. Now Consider V = 230v,
R1 = 40w
r2 = 100w
So P = V^2/r therefor R1 = (230)^2/40 = 1322.5 ohm
R2 = (230)^2/100 =529 ohm
So According to the OHM's Law V = IR
Resistance Directly proportional to Voltage.
so Voltage Directly proportional to Light.
Hence 40 watt bulb will glow more Brightly rather than 100w.

40 watt blub will glow more brightly because of higher
voltage drop than 100 watt.

Current in series connection is always same and voltage is
divided.here,
resistance of 40W bulb is higher than 100W bulb.
resistance of 40 watt is high so less current required to
glow a 40W bulb.
resistance of 100 watt is low so high current required to
glow a 100W bulb.
high resistance so voltage require more for glows = 40watt
glows more
similarly ,low resistance so voltage require less for glows
= 100w glows dim
formula I=V\R.

bulb of 40 watt will glow more brightly..
reasons in steps>>
1) power is directly proportional to current. so current of
the 100 watt bulb will be more than the current of 40 watt
bulb regardless of the connection.
2) as the current of the 100 w bulb is higher than 40w so,
resistance of 100 w is less than resistance of 40 w.
3) so as glowing is direct proportional to the voltage
across the bulb, and V=IR ...so voltage across 40 watt is
greater than voltage accros 100 watt.so bulb of 40 watt glow
more brightly.
