where orifice plate is used to measure flow alone, the
signal is square rooted. it is by the formula Q=K square
root of Differential pressure. If other types of FT are
used then the signal from that FT need not to be square
rooted.

when magnetic flow meter is used flow is linear
emf= v*B*L
V=VELOCITY OF FLOW
b=magnetic field
l=diameter of pipe

When flow is turbulent, the pressure drop through a restriction is proportional to the square of the flowrate. Therefore, flow can be measured by taking the square root of a differential pressure cell output.
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 15 Yes | 4 No |
Answer / kalaiselvan
flow directly proportional to square root of differential
pressure so we measure flow in square root
Q = SQARE ROOT OFF DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 13 Yes | 9 No |
Answer / faiyaz ahmad
flow is directly proportional the square root to measure a differential pressure that is why flow always measure in square root.
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 1 Yes | 0 No |
Answer / zia
Flow varies directly proportional to square root of differential pressure F = K square root of AP. Since this flow varies as the square root of differential pressure the pen does not directly indicate flow. The flow can be determined by taking the square root of the pen. Say the pen reads 50% of chart.

due to the high variation of flow measurements that's why we use square root in flow measurements.

Calculate the maximum pressure drop that can be allowed to occur across a control valve, so that we can prevent cavitation / flashing from occurring. Use the following formula: Δ P allow = Km (P1 – PvapourA) where, Δ P allow - the maximum allowable differential pressure for sizing purposes, or terminal pressure drop; Km- the valve recovery coefficient from the manufacturer’s catalogue; P1 - absolute inlet fluid pressure; PvapourA - absolute fluid vapour pressure at the inlet temperature; Use Atmospheric pressure = 101.3 kPa, P1 = 1200 kPa(g), PvapourA = 4 kPa, KM = 0.72
