The power factor of an AC electric power system is defined
as the ratio of the real power flowing to the load to the
apparent power [1] [2], and is a number between 0 and 1
(frequently expressed as a percentage, e.g. 0.5 pf = 50%
pf). Real power is the capacity of the circuit for
performing work in a particular time

Answer / rekha.k.m.
pf means it is that portion of current which is used for
doing active work .e.g if the pf is 0.8 it means that 80%
of the current is taken for doing active work and the rest
20% is used for creating magnetic field.

1. It is the ratio of real power(active) and apperent power.
p.f = kw/kva
2. It is the cosine angle bet voltage and current.
It is denoted by the angle of cos.
3. It is the ratio of useful power to total power in the circuit.
4. In the resistive circuit power factor will be one bcs of no any reactive power here(ideally).

Dear sir, I am working in wind mill division , pls explain Pls explain in details with formula My question is Wind speed 3.5 M/s Gen RPM is 1500 ( 25 K/w Production ) Wind speed 12 M/s Gen RPM is 1500 ( 220 K/w Production ) Why in 3.5 m/s generation was low , why in 12 m/s generation was high , Pls dont explain wind force or wind density , that one already i know For the above question RPM was same why the KW was different Answer : 1. Its depends on the density ( Force ) of the air Sir , Pls explain wit Formula sir
