check physicall condition.
Then check the resistance of therocouple.
if it is open theremocouple is dead.
if it showing some ohms nearer to Zero. Then it is ok.
Then heat the thermocouple check the mv & verify with the
standard chart.

by checking the resistance/voltage between the terminals of
thermocouple we can say that it is working or not

Answer / sivakumar
take a digital multimeter.. put it in mV Mode and place the
leads in to the thermocouple terminals .. check the mV IS
showing 0.01 for ktype (26degree celcius)... then hold the
measuring junction of the thermocouple in ur hand ..then
observe the changes.. it will vary slightly..
Note:- thermo couple leads are case sensitve(+/-) there are
different colour codes(for ktype yellow and red wires are
used cu, al yellow= positive, red= negative..)

T/C is working/?
1 check the thermocouples physical status, it is physically ok.
2 check the leads(terminals) ok
3 measure the room temp. in mv with the help of DMM
4 t/c kept in heat compared result mv vs temp.

the thermocouple is connected to the multimeter, and the
multimeter is set to volt, it shows reading of 0mv.the
principle that is used in thermocouple is seeback effect.

Answer / vinayak
To check the thermocouple, its mv is measured at the
terminals connected. the corresponding mv is compared with
mv v/s temperature chart & the value should tally with the
process / operation parameters

If you are going to test k-type thermocouple at normal room
temp.first you check the resistence of the themocouple using
multimeter.if junction is open then it shows Mohms means the
thermocouple is dead.it will show 0 resistence when it is in
good condition. then you check the milllivolt output by
touching the terminals with correct polarity (For k-type
red-positive; green-negative) using multimeter.at room
temprature the output of thermocouple is 0mV because both
the hot junction and cold junction are in same temprature
say 30deC.
then set the hotbath temp. into 100C and put the T/C inthat
and now check the T/C teminals it should show 4mV because
for K-type For 1degC =0.04mV will rise.It is difficult to
find that much minimum voltage.so that only we are taken the
reading at 100degC. now you are successfully tested the
Thermocouple.

CHECK CONTINUITY OF T/C LEADS AND MV O/P WHILE HAETING ITS
JUNCTION.
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 13 Yes | 8 No |
Primarily You can check the continuity of the t/c and
confirm its live or dead, measure the mV for the room
temperature it will show 0 mV. then rub the t/c end with
your hand, so that the mV will increase slightly. To check
it in higher temperatures use temp bath.

If the thermocouple is ok then by heating one junction there
will be emf produced at another junction which we can
measure by voltmeter
