DC series motor, always!!
because of its high stating torque and speed control..
But now a days, like in Delhi metro squirrel cage induction
motor is used becoz of its compact design, less maintenance
and regenerative current system.
also some improvements are made for better speed control..

Series motors are widely being used in traction systems, due to good starting torque ,speed controlling quality.
In general terms series motors are starting on load and performing great in compare to rest motors.
Now induction motors are also being apply in traction with SCR it is recent development.
