Answer / rajani
Actually DG size has to select depends on maximum demand
and considering base load and starting load and step load
base load = total maximum demand - loads which are
taking high loads at startign
starting load = if motor loads are DOL starts 6 times to
the Ifl will take at starting and soft
starters /VFD's will take 3 times to Ifl
step load = Whwn the main power supply is off
immidiently what are the load we can
switched ON through DG -called step load
(generally 40-60% of Dg load can be ON as
first step)
So our selected DG shopuld meet the step load and capable
to withstand startign loads

Suppose LOAD-1000 KW
So design load of Genset @ 80% inefficiency.
and power factor @80% in case of ( Failure of capacitor)because life of Capacitor and Gen set never equal to each other.
so 100% power back-up for 1000 KW load required DG 1000/0.64=1562.5 KVA
Recommended DG-1500 KVA

generally the efficiency of the D.G.set is 80% because of
the power factor.so u have to add 20% on the entire
load.

Answer / sijish
DG normaly loads up to 80% of the full load rating,
First step.Calaculate the load in KW.
Consider the staring current of the Load.
The minimum Amps rating of the dg shoul be 4 Times the
Running current of the motor load

Depending up on the total load to select the dg.for 5kw
load 10kva DG is suitable.
dg can be loaded for 80% of full load ,ie 8kw
calculating PF 6.4 kw can be loaded in 10kva dg.

Depending up on the total load to select the dg.For example
180KW load is there 200kva capacity genarator is sufficient.
