1. Mechanical (Prime Mover)
2. Electrical (Alternator)

When a running/rotated prime mover coupled to alternator,
mechanical engery converted into electrical energy by the
electrical machine.

Generator is the one which gives voltage as its output, by
having mechanical input.

For Eg: When the water falls on the panes fitted on the
shaft of motor the the force of the water results the shaft
to move and hence we have the current as its output.

( coil rotating in a magnetic field results in a current)
