Answer / raghuram
shear is governed by the depth. In case of slabs the depth
is restricted to 140mm(IS:456. So for that thickness shear
reinforcement is not required.

The quantum of shear stress for the slab is very less. the
shearing capacity of concrete itself sufficient to bear the
shear loads. Thats way minimum or no shear reinforcement is
provided for slabs.

When τc’ > τv no shear reinforcement is required
if τv > τc’ the shear reinforcement is required.(or)
Ast value is less than the minimum shear reinforcement
value then we should provide minimum shear reinforcement ie
0.12 % of bD. Shear reinforcements are used to resist the
shear cracks by means of increasing the Asv value.

I used Etabs software to analyse a high-rise building. And I want to use templated UBC-codes inside to calculate the Seismic load. My question is: whether or not I have to control the seismic load by base shear load which is manual calculation? (just for more clarification: I can control this by input the scale factor into Eartquake definition in Etabs) I would highly appreciate your answer.
