1. we have to select cable
for that first calculate current=12X1000/1.73x400x.95
=19 Amps

Type of cables= single core NYY(Red/Yellow/Blue/Green)

NYY 2.5 sq.mm
(ccc)=19.61A
Group rating=.68
sand bed=.90
Rating factor=.68x.90=.61
Actual CCC OF 2.5SQ.MM CABLE
=19.6X.61=11.96A
=26.20x.61=15.98
=33.63x.61=20.5143(OK)6 sq.mm

Votlage drop as per IEE regulation
Distance=10m(more)
=5.9x10x.152=8.968V(ok)
Finally SWG=6sq.mm

FROM THE FORMULA P=ROOT3 VICOS PHI

12/ROOT3*400*.85 WE GET I=20
VD= MV*L*I/1000
WE GET 10 SQR MM+EARTH CABLE 6 SQR MM

the selected cable should have the capability of
withstanding the over load /short ckt currents upto before
operating the protecting device. so assume 0.81 p.f,the load
current is given by apprx 20A .very safe working of copper
cable is 4A to 6A per 1sqmm ,so the size of the cable
suitable for 12kw motor is 6sqmm. copper cable or 16 sqmm
aluminum cable.

the above calculation is for lo current ratings if current
rating increases capacity will decrease.
