Voltage transformers (VT) and potential transformers (PT) are same and are called as a parallel connected type of instrument transformer. They are designed to present negligible load to the supply being measured and have an accurate voltage ratio and phase relationship to enable accurate secondary connected metering.

The term C.T means current transformer, and the term P.T means potential transformer. In circuit where measurements of high voltage and high current is involved they are used there.Particularly when a measuring device like voltmeter or ammeter is not able to measure such high value of quantity because of large value of torque due to such high value it can damage the measuring device.so, CT and PT are introduced in the circuits. They work on the same principle of transformer, which is based on linkage of electromagneticflux produced by primary with secondary. They work on the ratio to they are designed.E.g if CTis of ratio 5000\5A and it has to measure secondary current of
8000A.then ANS=8000*5\5000=8Aand this result will be given to ammeter .and after measuring 8A we can calculate the primary current.same is
the operation of PT but measuring voltage.

a potential transformer is used to measure high voltages,
the output of a typical potential transformer may be 110v,
where as its high voltage side can be in kvs (11,33,110,220
etc.)in other words pts are only step down, now voltage tfs
are devices which either step up or step down voltages of
an electric current.

Voltage transformer is a commercial step up or a step down
transformer....which is used to step up or step down the
voltages respectively.
The potential transformer is one which is used to measure
the high voltages in transmission lines, and gives output in
the form of measurement of voltage by the voltmeter.
The secondary of the P.T is Grounded.

Actully we can not make a meter which can measure 11 kv, 33
kv or above. so we use potential transformer to step down
the voltage level to a measurable value by the measuring
instrumen. other wise voltage and potential transormer are
same.

what time should we set to come on star contacter in stardelta starter?and for what reason we hav to set such time delay range?
if we convert kw into Ampers, which one formula use by us,pls tell me?
What do you mean by cold shinkable cable joint. How it is done.
when an induction motor runs on load.at that time if we reduce the supply voltage the current increases. But when it runs without load,if we reduce the supply voltage the current also reduced.why?.i checked it practically also.
If I have a LT panel 3ph, 415V, 50Hz which demand load-600kw, how we can calculate its body earth strip size.
How multimeter shows phase to phase voltage 440V & phase to neutral 220V.
what is mean by busbar and what is the difference between busbar, transmissionline, feeder, distribution line
what is open star connection or open delta.
what is the principle of operation of CFL ??
In a three phase transformer(delta/star connected)when i touch one end of the bulb in any one phase and other end to earth..will the bulb glow or not..if not why?..i'm touching the bulb in star connected side...
why do we have 230v a.c. as general voltage for domestic supply rather than others?
why we are using star connection and delta connection? difference?
