General Item category Group is an extension item category
group.
Example: if one select item catagory group as NORM, but
under item category group, NORM can further be classified
as Service item, packagaing item or Normal item
using "general item category group". General item category
group is maintained at client level, this field can be
maintain from Basic Data View of Material Master. Thus in
case item category group is missing, then general item
category group is used for item category determination.

Item category group determines how a material is processed
in the sales order. When processing sales and distribution
documents, the system uses the item category group to
determine the item category and proposes it in the
respective document. Item category group is defined in the
Sales Org View 2 of Material Master Record.

General item category group is used by MM if u made any
changes in that it will not effect is SD u can test this
now.
Item category group is used for SD to configure the item
category if u make anything here it will effect in your
sales document proces.

1/ Item category group determines the behaviour of the item
whether it is value item,free item, etc and how this item
behaves in sales order.General item catagory group
determines the category of the item like trading
goods,service goods,& finished goods etc..

2/Item catagory group is for sd to configure the item
catagory if you make anything here it will affect in your
sales document process .General item catagory group is used
by mm if you made any change in that it will not affect in
sd .

3/ General item catagory group is irrespective of sales
organization where item catagory group is for particular
sales organization .

the item category of a line item in the sales order. It is
of significant use in SD.

General item category group is a global parameter used in
determining the batch profile in batch management, routing,
serialization profile etc.

Sorry, I don't think so. The item category group is not
exlusive for MM module. For SD, it is effective for item
category determination and determine the operation of
header items and sub-items in the items rows of sales order.

in material sub stution when we sell the sub stute material with main item price it will display the list of materials with main price or only one substute material is substuted automatically in first senario i practed it will display the list of materials but price taking it's oown price.in 2 case substute item is picking main item price but it is possible for only one substute item only.may question is it possible to display list of material case 2?thanking you in advance
