what is the difference between earth and neutral?

Earthing: As we all know it is used to protect human bodys
from leakage current from short circuit in equipments or
mal function or crack in insulation.
Neutral: In case of 1 phase AC system, neutral acts as a
return path to flowing current in any electrical circuit.
It is up to the 1 Phase Generator. But in 3 phase AC
system, neutral is not compalsory if the system is in
stable operation (In stable operation the return path is
same as the third phase when first and second are above the
zero volt in the positive cycle). But it is usual practice
that there is always leakage current flowing in any
electrical ckt. thus Neutal is provided to carry this
current and take it to the Ground like Eearthing....
Thank you....

Answer / sonam
some way or the other everybody is correct
but Practically speaking the main difference which u should sy in interviews is that,
Neutral is the return path of current
Earth wire is the path of resultant current/ Fault current.
nothing more

neutral in a balanced system always contains zero current,
hence it is at zero volts, it is the centre point of a 3
phase star system, and as such is a phase wire for any
single phase system run off it, and it is usually
maintained at zero volts. Its function is to collect
current flowing from a higer potential to a lower potential.
The earth wire on the other hand provides a fault path for
fault current to flow to earth, thus activating any
protective devices. In a Tn-c-s sytem, the earth and
neutral are combined, this offering a much lower earth path
in that system because of parallel paths.

Neutral is the point at which all the three phases current
meets and the algebric sum of current becomes zero in case
of balanced load condition.
Neutral is usually grounded with some resistance in series
in case of equipment protections like generator and
transformer protections.
While earthing is the "dead zero point" in electrical
system. I.e zero potential point or reference potential.

Earth is for the Saftey or Protection of human
Neutral is a retun way current to complete the circuit
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 6 Yes | 1 No |
Answer / brian dsouza
In theory a neutral is a must to complete any electrical
circuit and an earth is a must to drive any leakage current
originating from the circuit to the ground and hence
protection to the human body.It is not advisable and should
not by any means, use earth as a replacement to neutral
which makes the circuit incomplete. If that would be the
case , electrical companies all over the world would use
only one conductor to supply the phase and they would use
our (huge) mother earth as the return path and complete the
circuit which is not so.
Thank you.

earting;./on earthing there is only used when some devices
has short circuit and protect living thing frome shakes
while neutral used always for returan path and more devices
can not working with out neutral while all devices working
with out neutrial and other u can drink cool thing on cool
but if u want to drink hot thing on cool its also possible
so it may used both beacuse neutrial is also made frome
earth
