the stoichiometry of water & iodine from 1:1 to 2:1.To
prevent such side reaction methanol is added

According to KF principal is medium should be need lower alcohol or organic solvent and lower alcohol is methanol.
The iodine react with water , the consumed iodine value is water content.
Sample weight is calculated based on the stoichiometry value i.e (1:1 to 2:1)
