Capillary columns 100 micron or less in internal diameter
so the sample vlume what we are injected is too high for
column thus split help to dived the volume and pass require
volume into injuctor.
Eg : Split ratio is 1 : 10 that means what ever the sample
u injected that portion is divided into 10 parts from that
10 parts only 1 part will go into injuctor. this is to
minimize the load.

Split ratio:- It is the ratio of sample amount inject into
the column to that waste out from glass insert.
In capillary columns the size of bore is about 5 microns. It
faced xtra load whent inject high conc. sample.for reduce
the xtra load on column there is a need of split ratio.
Normaly its value:- 10:1
split ratio is required when Conc.of sample >or=0.1 %
split ratio is not required when Conc.of sample < 0.01 %

Split injection techniques are used in capillary gas
chromatography. Capillary columns are easily overloaded, so
smaller amounts have to be injected. Because of the split a
smaller amount of analyte will enter the column

Capillary columns are easily overloaded by injecting High Amount of Sample Concentration.
To Reduce or overcome this problem Split Ratio is Incorporated The Main use of this Split Ratio is Inject Less amount of Sample of interest into column or passes through it.
The Q? comes in a mind How it could be Done
Split vent is option Provide by Every manufacture like Agilent and shimadzu how it works i will expalin
Example :- ur method shows a split ratio of
1:30 Metan that 150ml/min of Split vent flow and Colum flow 5ml/min If u have Installed 0.53mm id Colum of any pahse.
Similarlly 1:50 mean 250ml/min of split ventflow and 5ml/min of column flow
formula split ratio = split vent flow / column flow
if know any of the parameter u can calculate by substituting in the above formula ...
thanks

Split ratio is split of flow and thus split of sample at
the injection port to minimize sample overload to GC
capillary column.
