Answer / venkat boyi
The rating of any electrical device is based on losses
developed in the machine. In Transformer the losses depends
up on only Voltage and current but not on PF, hence the
rating of it is in KVA. In motor the output is mechanical
and mechanical load represented by HP in Watts

Answer / sudhir singh
the rating of any machine depend the losses. The losses in
transformer which are iron and cupper losses depend upn the
current and voltage and not on their product so its rating
is in kva not in hp.
As motor gives mechanical output which is measured in hp.

Answer / sekar
for transformer we can connect any load(R,L).so its power
factor variable . so it is in kva...
since motor is a load .It is designed for particular power
factor.

transformer handels electrical energy matching to the
system which containing active and reactive power .which
measured in volt amp capacity.hence rated as mva or kva.how
ever electric motor is meant for converting electrical
energy into mechanical energy that is shaft power . and
shaft power is always rated in horse power .

in transformer only two losses is consider one core loss and
other copper loss and core load is depend on the voltage(v)
and copper load depend on the current(i),so we know the
rating of every system is dependent on his system loss so
transformer rating in KVA .in moter, the output of moter is
mechnical so its rating is always consider in HP.

By convention:
Power supplies are rated for their capacity to output power and are rated in VAs or kVAs.
Loads are rated for their power consumption and are rated in hp (In Europe they would be rated in Watts or KW as metric units).
For the purposes of ratings, transformers are rated based upon their ability to supply power to a load and so are rated in VA.
A 1kVA transformer can drive a motor of up to 1.34 hp (1kW).
Note: It the transformer was rated by the power it consumed (the losses when 1KW is drawn from the output) it would be more difficult to figure out what size of transformer you need to drive your 1.34hp motor.

1.Transfomer is a balance load ,( trere is no change in
pf,frequnce, and load)
2.Motor is a un balance load (it is change in pf,frequnce,
and load)

Answer / gunasekaran
for transformer it is electrical load. but motor is
machanical load so it is HP transformer in VA
