Neutral is used as return path in ac single phase supply and and three phase star connection unbalanced load current flows through it,so it used fr return path fr unbalanced in that also

neutral is the return path and when it is connected loosely ,it affects the whole circuit either the bulbs are burnt or it causes flames in a circuit

Neutral is reqd for Star System. It can be earthed or
unearthed/floating state.Neutral with earthing is reqd to
oppose the arcing ground effect.You may choose neutral
floated but that time insulation level of sytem to be
increased.
