we cant eliminate humming noise completely but partially eliminated on tighting of bolts around the laminated core

why we still use sinusoidal waveforms for transmission and utilisation (we know generation is sinusoidal), instead of other ac waveforms such as triangle, sawtooth, square etc.,? is there any mathematical derivations to prove sinusoidal is efficient than others?
