What is the basic difference between Latches and Flip flops?

Latches-> It is a memory cell, capable of storing one bit of
information i.e. either logic 1 or 0.
Flipflop-> They r the synchronous ckt( ckt which changes
state only when clk pulses r present). Here the basic latch
is modified by providing additional control input that
determines when the state of the ckt is to be changed.

The latch is used for certain types FF. It refers to non-clocked FF,because these FF 'latch ON' to 1 or 0 immediately upon receiving the input pulse called SET or RESET.They are not dependent on clock signal for their operation,i.e a latch is a sequential device that checks all its inputs continuously & changes its outputs accordingly at any time independent of a clock signal.

Flipflops:
1) It is an edge triggering device.2) Requires more no of
gates/area to implement.3) They are immune to glitches.4)
They are slower.5)95% OF SEMICONDUCTOR COMPANIES PREFER
FLIP FLOPS.
Latches:
1)It is an level trigerrinf decics.2)Requires less no of
gates to implement.3)They are sensitive to glitches.4)They
are faster.6) IBM Prefers latches INSTEAD OF FLIPFLOPS

Both latches and Flip flop are similar. Both are bistable logic circuits and can reside in any of two stable states due to a feed back arrangement. The main difference between them is in the method used for changing the state further The difference between a latch and a flip-flop is that a latch does not have a clock signal, whereas a flip-flop always does also Latches are asynchronous while as a flip-flop is a synchronous version of the latch ........

Latches and Flip flops are mainly used as data storage
elements, Latches are the building blocks of combinatorial
circuits & Flip Flops are the building blocks of sequential
circuits. The difference between a latch and a flip-flop is
that a latch does not have a clock signal, whereas a
flip-flop always does.

1 the basic difference is that latch is level sensitive
memory element but ff is edge sensitive memory element
2 latch required less ckt component as comparison to ff
3 ff is faster than latch

latch is a combinational circuit WITH FEEDBACK.It is takes
two inputs n stores a bit until the i/p is altered.
FLIP-FLOP is a CLOCKED LATCH, it exhibits whole function of
latch + it is effected at every clock pulse.
note:EDGE triggering n LEVEL triggering should not b taken
as a basic difference from CONCEPTUAL point of view.
BECAUSE: the edge triggering concept was introduced to
improve upon level triggered master slave f/f!!! i can
explain it if u r intersted. my id is:manojf35@gmail.com

The basic difference between a latch and a flip flop is a 'LATCH' is a level trigger whereas the 'Flip Flops' are edge trigger.

there is a very little diff between latch and flip flop
latch:it do not have clock signal,it is level sensitive, used as switch.
flip flop:it has clock signal,it is edge sensitive, and normally used as storage element.
latch is the combination of flip flop,
