What is the basic difference between Latches and Flip flops?

Answer / chenna
Latches are trasaparent to the inputs.
Flipflops are not transparent to inputs i.e flipflops are
synchronize w.r.t to control signal which is
normaly "clock" signal.
Normaly "Edge triggered FF" are used to eliminate the "Race
around condition " in FFs,so generaly FFs are defined
as "edge sensitive"

F/F is element of the registers. it is used to stores one
bit of data.
but
latch is combination of two
parallel gates,in which the output of one parallel gate is
input of the other parallel gate and vice
verca.

latches is a asynchronous and have enable pin that is
perform that signal input is high or low.
but the flip flop has the synchronous and have clock input
pin that is mention the signal is low to high and high to
low.

flip-flop and lach both can be called as storage device but
the main and only basic difference between latch and FF is
that when clock is given to the FF it transfers 1 bit of
input to the output, means it transfers only 1 bit at one
clock pulse.
While in latch it is well known that it is edge triggered
so when no trigger pulse is given it acts as open switch
and when trigger pulse is given it acts as a BUFFER.means
when latch is triggered it transfers all the input data
(of any size of memory) towards o/p inspite of 1bit like
latch.

Latch is nothing but flip-flop it self.
Flip-Flop got this name because of its lathcing action.
Syncronous latches have clock inputs so Clock feature is no
the differnce between them.

There is no real difference. A latch only uses one output
whereas a flip-flop has two. In a latch one of the inputs
is used as a set. The second is used as a reset. In a flip-
flop the first input sets the first output and resets the
second. The second input resets the first output and sets
the second.
A number os flipflops are often used as a part of a (shift)
register. Then both outputs are used and the shift is made
by a clockpulse.
A flip-flop (and thus a latch) can be edge triggered or
level-triggered. This depends on the internal structure of
the IC.

Latches are nothing but, N number of flip-flops with one
output inside single device which has control pins like
latch enable, output enable etc.
