It is depends upon the design mix of concrete but it is generally 50*dia of bar

Answer / aa.
Lap Length is provided at the end of rod to maintain its continuity.
Normally, it is 50 times dia of bar/rod. But it varies depending on types of stress it undergoes i.e. direct tension, bending tension and compression.
It also depends on dia of bar/rod, Grade of Steel & Grade of Concrete used. Because, higher the bond strength, lower is the lap length. Bond strength is higher for higher grade of concrete.
Similarly, higher is the strength of steel, higher will be lap length.
When two bars of unequal sizes are used, lap length is calculated based on lower dia.

lap length is the enough length to be provided so that the bond between steel and concrete remains strong.usually it is provided 30D in tension and 24D in compression.but to avoid confusion between the bar benders and contractors and to be on safer side we provide 50D both in compression and tension.where D is diameter of rebar.

dURING STEEL BINDING IN CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY,AT SOME POINT STEEL BAR END COMES AND WE HAVE TO JOINT AN OTHER STEEL BAAR.How to overlap the steel baars at whic length?after seeing the ACI code ,seeing the dia of the bar, rferences in ACI code we get the formula to find the joint of the two bars(lap length, over lapping) is 50times dia of bar.
