Lap Length is provided at the end of rod to maintain its continuity.
Normally, it is 50 times dia of bar/rod. But it varies depending on types of stress it undergoes i.e. direct tension, bending tension and compression.
It also depends on dia of bar/rod, Grade of Steel & Grade of Concrete used. Because, higher the bond strength, lower is the lap length. Bond strength is higher for higher grade of concrete.
Similarly, higher is the strength of steel, higher will be lap length.
When two bars of unequal sizes are used, lap length is calculated based on lower dia.
