capacitors provides the phase angle diffrence between
voltage and current so the rotating flux produces and it
gives starting torque to the motor.

in case of 3ph motor three phases are having phase
difference of 120 Degree so its easy to produce rotating
force..
IN case of 1Ph motors due to only-one phase,it needs to be
produse phase difference for rotation Which is
achived by capacitor By producing phase delay....

just 2 shift the phase.... ...so now we get 2 phase....
<m talkin abt electrical phase ....> when 2 phase
alternating field comes in contact with rotor .....it
produce eddey current in it nd in turn torque is produced
.............
....in other words it will be a lyk saying 2 start the
motor .........
some single phase motors have ... rotatory switch ......for
them its used just 2 disconnect the 2nd filed ..connected 2
the capacitor

its a different thing .............
capacicance is calculated by the area of plate and distance
beetween them .and the dielectric(matterial)betewwn those
electric plates r dependent upon .......the value of
capacitanc e
just google the dderivation ...m out of touch on this topic

as the flux produce by a single phase alternates +ve and -ve. during +ve half cycle of flux, rotor of the motor try to move to one side to couple its megnetic poles to the stator poles (stator poles change at 50c/sec) but the next half cycle it try to move the other side to couple its megnetic poles to the stator poles, due to inertia and fastly change in megnetic pole does not allow the rotor to couple its megnetic poles to the stator alternating pole which results the failure of motor rotation. capacitor produce a split phase which make its own alternating flux 90 degree to the parent flux. thus as the orignal flux comes to its peak +ve value the split flux value become 0 degree.the rotor try to rotate one side and as the orignal flux comes to 180 the split flux by the capacitor comes to 90 and try to couple the megntic fields of rotor and stator.thus the rotor rotates

hi ramya ...did u find the correct answer for using
capacitior in single phase motors ????????

Answer / mukesh sharma
Because required phase difference angle for a single phase
motor should be 180 degree.
so, 90 degree legging due to inductor (because motor winding
is inductive) & 90 degree Leading due to capacitor so,
total Phase difference = 90-(-90)=180 degree
