there could be lots of reason for long running BG job.

1. check with the job owner what the report contains,
long critical programs might uses long run time,
2. Did this job runs for the first time or runned previous.
if previous then what was the time taken past.
3. check for the real status of the job, might be some
situations the job completed/cancelled but due to
communication problem the status might not be updated in
SM37.
4. check for the memory utilisation, and resource constrains

it is only the job owner who knows what is the jobs and
what is it doing or what purpose the job has runned.

so take help and work with the job owner.

First check if the job is taking CPU Cycles, If the job is
getting CPU Cycles then may be the job is working with file
which is bigger then its normal, If not may be waiting for
any file, If the job is not taking CPU Cycels then
refresh , later check if no change then the job may be
stuck so we need to kill the job and rerun it.

First, we need to check workprocess status, if all the
process are busy, try to free some workprocess, if this is
not the case check with the LOG file size and if it is near
full in its maximum size allowed, try to reduce the LOG
size.

First check the available background jobs if they are not
free try to kill the long running jobs which will the free
process ,if background job is also free chk the job whthr
it is active r not if it is not active trigger the
correponding report in se38.

Hi,
Usually BackGround Job is Schedule to take more time span
when compared to Diaglog Job and as the Background job is
time consuming one can schedule the job in night time where
in there won't be any request from clients at that
particular time .
