What will happen if we give AC supply to DC motor?

Answer / rahul
depends on type of d motor..i.e. it's construction.
A PMDC motor will not run on AC.
A shunt wound motor will not run on AC. There will b heavy
heating that may cause damage.
A series motor functions as Universal Motor and hence will
run satisfactorily on AC.

k but in this case, what will happen to the motor
windings? how about the protection system whether it will
act during this condition?

luk...of course the performance is gonna b inferior as u may
know the differences b/w universal motor and dc
motor...Eb(back emf) will b less for ac..so less o/p power

in dc motor when we give ac supply to the armature then the motor is not run. because the direct flux produce from the permanent magnets, but from the armature winding the alternating flux is produced.that means the flux is rotated continuously.the the polarity of the armature flux continuously changes... the the aiding of the flux is not possible..with out aiding of the flux no torque will be produce..no torque means no rotations...that means the hunting will be processed........

i have interview in Pepsi company what type of question will ask please send the question and answeer
at work we have a 3 phase motor but on testing one phase isnt getting a reading. it runs 24 hours a day all week. stops and starts well no noise or heating. the phase isnt down to earth.is it just a bad meter reading or not? phases one and three came up with a resistance reading of 0.4 but phase 2 couldnt get anything shows up as open circuit.

in a 740 kw dc seperately excited motor field voltage is constant about 17.4 volts and armature voltage is500 volts dc. how it is possible to have two different voltages from single transformer of output voltage 500 volts? if any difficulty in question contact ajitsingh.kadian@gmail.com

in cvt, there are two windings,1a,1n and 2a,2n.in my one project i use only one winding i.e.1a,1n. the other winding is not in use, so i connect it in open delta and want to close it by ibsertibg thermal resistor. the output of cvt is 132kv/115/sqrt3. plesae tell me exact value of resistor, so i may close it to avoid the resonance phenomenin. send me answer on this email adress please. aetcon-po@aetcon.com
