Lightning Arrester or LA is a protection device that is connected to the line in parallel. In stable system LA is working as a insulator. But when surge current travel through the line then it is worked as a conductor and pass the huge current to the ground.
For transformer protection you can see LA in HV side as well as LV side. This protection is mainly for high voltage system.

Lightning Arrester or Surge Arrester is a electric device
which protects the equipments from extra high voltage or
surge voltage. It provides a low resistance path for surge
voltage or high voltage. When lightning occures then for
micro sec a very high voltage produces which may damage the
equipments. So to protects such equipments LA connceted
Parally or shunt with equiments.Although it provides low
resistance path for EHV, so all surge voltages directly
grounded and equipment save from damage.

A line trap is a parallel L/C circuit that creates a low impedance at power frequency(60hz) and a high impedance at your desired carrier frequency. You will have a trap at each end of the line that utilizes a pilot scheme such as DCUB scheme. On a simple scheme, you will usually only couple your carrier signal to a single phase of your three phase system. If this phase was to become faulted to ground behind your line, say on your bus, the traps high impedance to your frequency would keep your carrier frequency from following the fault current to ground and essentially "trapping" your frequency on the line ensuring your pilot scheme operates correctly.
There is a surge arrestor located internally to the trap that passes very high current faults on the system to protect the C of the L/C. Circuit.

Lightning Arrester is a device used on Elctrical Power
Systems. It is used to protect the insulation of the
system. When a lighting surge travels along the power line
to the arrester, the current from the surge is diverted
through the arrestor in most cases to earth.
Wave Trap is a device used on Electrical power sysems. It
can descriminate the Power Frequency waves and power
communication waves and it reduce the noise and
interference from line.
