In view of Electrical Engg. What is the use of SCR(Silicon control rectifier)..

Answer / harsh zala

SCR is a device from Solid state family. It can be used as
a switch in electrical system, means high speed switch, for
e.g Inverter, for convertign DC energy into AC energy.

Is is having high current capacity,For speed control of AC
and DC motor we can use SCR but we should have very fine
controlling ckt.

It can replace conventional spped control methods like
resistance control and at the same time can offer less
power consumption.

Due to advancement of power electronics we can use it in
practically many electrical application such as

1) Chopper ( Fixed DC to Variable DC)
2)Inverter ( Fixed DC to variable AC)
3) Cycloconverter ( Fixed AC to variable AC)

In view of Electrical Engg. What is the use of SCR(Silicon control rectifier)..

Answer / thamizh selvan

in short.. it can be used as a switch.
when gate voltage is applied, it conducts and when gate
voltage is not applied... it does not conduct.
hence it can also b called as asemiconductor switch

Answer / jitender kotwal

As by name it is clear that it is a rectifier device but
in SCR we can rectifier the voltage at desired phase angle
by means of the grid so in havey rectifiers the mattalic
scr are used ,SCR are also used in invertors, motor speed
control,etc
