Answer / vinod
when a load is to be breaked suddenly with a less
decelaration time or when a motor is stoped within its
system time constnt, they regenerate the energy back to the
mains.this regeneration happens through VFD.
to dissipate this regenerated energy a breaking resistor is
connected to the VFD.

Answer / shinyvikram ganji
usually braking resistor is associated with drives.suppose
a motor is running at some speed.assume the supply is cut
of suddenely.but the rotor continues to rotate and
generates emf.so the produced emf is to be dissipated in
the resitor for motor to be halted

Answer / vinamra
If the motor supply is cutoff instantly, but due to inertia
the motor can not stop instantly and it generate the
voltage and fed to drive due to less deaccelaration of
drive. To consumed this energy we connect the brake resister
in drive.
