The 'field status' of an individual field or a group of
fields is marked into a Field Status Group, which is then
assigned to individual GL account master records. You may
attach field status groups to a field status variant so
that the same field status groups are used in various
Company Codes.
The Field Status Variant is named similar to the Company
Code. For example, if your Company Code is 1000, the field
status variant is also named as 1000, and the same is
assigned to the Company Code

Both FSG and PK control the same feilds in a document.There
is no dominance between FSG and Posting keys..but we should
know the allowed combinations....
If text is made required in PK and suppressed in FSG..the
system will issue a error msg..Rules for PK...and FSG....is
set incorrectly for SGTXT field.
Permissable combinations:
Pk R/S O/S R/o R S O
FSG S/R S/O o/r R S O
Result e SD RD NP NP NP
R = required
s = suppressed
e = error
SD = Suppressed dominates
Rd = required dominates
np = no problem.

A field Status Group is a part of a Field Status Variant. A field status group defines the properties to which a g/l (FS00) must react.
Different Field Status Groups have to be applied for different G/L accounts.
For ex: G001(Field Status Variant) for General Ledgers
G005(" " " ") for Bank Accounts
G067(" " " ") for Reconciliation A/c
Here, the General Ledgers, Bank Accounts and the reconciliation Accounts will react according to the preferences set in the respective characteristics of respective Field Status Groups.
To set the preferences, or to control G/l accounts, the field status groups provides us with certain options such as:
Suppressed:
Choose this option for not showing the respective data
Required:
Choose this option for showing those data as a required one (a user cannot leave a screen unless and until the required field is filled up)
Optional:
Choose this option if the user either needs the respective data to be entered or not during the specific period of time according to preferences

Hi all
During Transaction posting, the end user would see many
fields on the screen. While some fields mandatorily require
data input, there may be other fields which may or may not
require to be filled up with data ( such fields are called
optional fields). Some fields may also be hidden so that
they do not show up ( such fields are called hidden
fields). Each company code may decide the status of each
field and configure accordingly.
The field status needs to be set up for each line item
occuring in a transaction being posted.
Where do you set the status?
As you can never have a line item in a document with a G L
master Record and a related posting key, you set field
status in the G L Master record ( viz. in the Field Status
Group ) and also in all posting keys. When you enter a line
item using a G L master record during transaction posting,
the field status set in the posting key and the Field
status group compete with one another and based on a rule
called SRO rule the status of thefield is set ( Suppress
has the maximum priority, Required next and Optional has
the least priority).
This setting determines how a field would appear or
otherwise during document posting.
Hope this helps.
Regards
VidhyaDhar
