Current transformer also called as CT is basically instrument type transformer, which is use to measure large amount of currrent in transmission lines. a small ammeter of range 0-5A is connected in series with secondary of this transformer and secondary is always earthed so as to avoid damage occuring due to high inrush current in it. primary is connected in series with the line which current is to be measure. Actually CT is an high current measuring ammmeter.
