Electrical machines can be rotating or static.
Rotating machines such as motors or generators and they have a stationary part called stator and a rotating part called rotor which has shaft and bearings helping to rotate inside the stator keeping an air gap in between.
Stationary machines; yes machines constructed mainly from Laminated iron core and windings which are all stationary; not designed to move or rotate.

Can anybody explain me the electrical circuit of indian railways to drive electrical engines(LOCOMOTIVES)? How does overhead lines work in the circuit to drive different trains on the same track?
