phase and nonpolar compouds can separated through nonpolar
stationary phase but mobile phase used is vice versa.

Compounds should be seperated on "like likes like basis" ie polar compounds should be separated on polar columns and vice versa. Polar compounds when analysed on C-18 should be treated with modifiers to act like non-polar or neutral compounds.

1.if compound is polar select midpolar or towards the
nonpolar column e.g. C18 is midpolar column which is used.
2.if compound is nonpolar select polar stationary phase
e.g. silica column
3.look for the nature of compound whether it is ionisable
or non-ionisable
