IDOC: An intermediate document, container for exchanging
data between R/3 and other SAP and non-SAP applications.
Structured collection of segments. Segments are structured
collection of data elements
An Intermediate Document (IDoc) is a SAP standard format
for data transfer between systems.
IDocs are mainly used for Application Link Enabling (ALE)
and for Electronic Data Interchange
(EDI). They are not used for processing inside an
application.

Hi,

The IDoc is an Intermediate document which is carrying data which is sent out/in from SAP.
Example:- We send Sales order info, Delivery info, Customer info, Pick/Pack info to 3rd party software's via different-different interfaces.

Example:- If an Sales order is coming into SAP, then It can be created from various means:- Phone, Fax, CRM, EDI

Then all the sales order information will come into SAP via an IDoc in a structured way.
