dont do this instead copy the standard itemcategories and
experiment on them it is of low risk.

Yes,it is possible to change the item category manually
provided

that manual item categories in Tcode-vov4.

care should be taken that manual item categories and
default item categories has the same settings.

Yes, its is possible in SAP but u never do this method
because u hv a lot of problems because suddenlly u need for
standard functionality in this case u couldn't remember the
standard functionality den u hv face lot of problems so,
better to do Copy as from the standard.

the next time u may notremember what are the setttings are
there for that item category.

eg: if u change the item category TAN as a group conditon
or remove the block of condition update the next time u cant
maintain the condition supplemments by using that item category.

It is possible to change, but not advisable. It is always
better to copy the standard item category and create your
own. Incase of any doubts, we can always fall back on the
standard one.
