KBR is IR inactive and less reactive & to avoid ion reaction. KBR no interaction with sample & it is IR absorbant so no any interferace in sample in range between 400 to 4000.

ya it is true that all alkylhalide may be use but mostly KBr coz KBr are transparent and thin in nature due to which the rediation can eassily pass through it. also it is ideal in nature ( not reacted ).
and do not absorb the provided rediations and to make clear patterns.
