Generally We faced critical issue when we take help from ABAPer.
It's also called user exit creation.In that case you want to understand client requirement and then write functional specification to ABAP team .
Eg.If you want to calculate Sales Employee incentive as per each sales order .you can create partner function SE (Sales Employee)configuration .After partner configuration you can create condition type (Statistical Condition+Maintain Requirement )condition type it will trigger only in billing document not in sales order .so you have to create condition with specific table creation(Maintain Sales Employee not available in option so u can take help from ABAPer for Enhancement + Requirement.

This kind of difficult issue generally faced.
