What is Transport domain and Domain controller?

Transport Domain is nothing but the systems which you have
planned to use for transportation among the SAP landscape by
TMS. In transport domain, all systems have unique SID's and
only one system will be configured as Domain Controller.
The Domain controller is responsible for the maintenance of
the TMS configuration settings and it ensures the
consistency of the settings through out the landscape. It
holds the reference configuration and all other systems
holds the copy of the reference configuration.

Domain controller is the system in which you want to manage
the change request ie. modifying or creating repository
objects. It is usually DEV system.
transport domain is the group of systems which are under a
single transport group. it is made by defining transport
routes between them so that objects are shared between them.
they have a common share transport directory.

Hi,
Transport Domain is possible only if SAP is installed and
if RFC (Remote Function Call)is configured between systems.
A system is said to be a Domain Controller if ADS is
installed on a WorkGroup Computer and ADS is Integrated
with DNS and whereas DNS is not Integrated with ADS.

Hi,
Transport Domain is concerned with STMS (Standard Transport
Management Service),One can access to STMS or Transport
Domain once SAP Application Server is Installed and if RFC
between systems is Maintained through (BD54 or SALE
Tcode).Transport Domain is maintained only if RFC is
Configured.
Domain Controller is defined as if ADS is Configured
through DCPROMO on a standalone system which is a
workstation.Once Domain Controller is installed on a system
then we can connect to different systems and maintain a
Network of Systems by just mapping with Domain Name to that
particular system to connect to Network. Here in Domain
Controller ADS is Integrated with DNS and whereas DNS is
not integrated with ADS.DNS is abreviated as Domain Name
Server it converts HostName to IP address and IP address to
HostName and this concept is known as Forward lookup Bias
and Reverse lookup Bias and this can be seen through
NSLOOKUP command in command Prompt.
