what is the diff. between power transformer & distribution
transformer.....

Answer / vedpraksh uppadhaya
power tranformer are used at substation & they have maximam
efficency at full load .
power transformers have high ratting like wise 5 mva, 8
mva,...
these are used in 66kv , 33kv.
while the distribution have less efficency at full load as
compair to power transformer as well as their is no need of
controlling equipment like as bucollz relay. these are used
for distribution purpose example.500kkva...

The major difference B/W Ptr and DTr ,
* The power trans is step down and step up the High voltage
(HV-3Phase to 3Phase system)-for substation purpose
* The power trans have rating up to 500mVA(up to 400kV)
* The Distribution trans is step down voltage(HV to LV
Side -3Phase to 3Phase 4 wire system)-for domestic consumer
* The power trans have rating up to 50mVA(33,22,11kV to
0.415kV

Answer / amitsinh atalia
Power transformers have ratings above 500 kva and have
maximum efficiency at full load and are designed for higher
leakage reactance.
while distribution tranformers have ratings below 500 kva
and are designed for max. efiiciency at a load much below
than the full load, and should have lower leakage reactance.

I agreed with Mr. Amitsinh Atalia, but a correction is needed.
Generally Power transformers have rating above 5000KVA(not
500 KVA).
and Distribution Transsformers having rating Below 5000 KVA.
Rest is same.

If any HVDC line is going with positive & negative(the negative usually have return path of current with earthing electrode). Now the question is if this HVDC earthed electrode which is using as return path and earthed any nearby 400kv or 220kv AC substation equipments. which will be the impact of this on AC substation & its equipment, how severe may be this and what should be the minimum distance require between HVDC earthed electrode and AC substation equipments? It's really an high engineering level question...Dare to answer and increase your knowledge.
