Condenser?

Answer / dhivyabharathi
When it is over excited it will act as a synchronous
condenser. when the synchronous motor is over excited, it
will also act as the synchronous condenser.synchronous
condenser is like a capacitance.synch.condenser can be used
in power factor improvement.

At peak load time Synchronous Gen. act as Synchronous
condenser. At peak load time the p.f. is very poor resulting
in low vtg at receiving end. Hence to feed reactive power to
inductive load the Synchronous Gen. is over excited. This
improves p.f. improving vts profile at R.E.
