why we always consider Bulkage due to the voids only for
the Fine aggregates not for the Coarse aggregates

why we always consider Bulkage due to the voids only for the Fine aggregates not for the Coarse ag..

Answer / suresh

free moisture forms a film around each particle. because of the surface tension of the water, the moisture film exerts a sort of pressure which keeps the fine aggregate particles away from each other.therefore it occupies more volume compared to dry condition.so, when we are adopting volumetric batching we actually use less volume of F.A, which makes the mix richer.
however this effect less pronounced(can take place) in case of
coarse aggregate. so we consider bulking is problem only for F.A.
