Why the generating station rating is in KW though the
rating of generators in KVA?

Answer / vittal
generating station main aim is to meet the load which can
be met completlely by the mechanical units or the source of
the prime over ,which must be mention in kw.
where as the rotationg ac machines are rated in kva
because of the losses ie the iron and copper (not on pf)
mention in kva
but even the pf is also mention on the alternator which
means the generator should be operated on that load
ex: if rating of the plant is 100 then if alternator of 0.8
pf is selected the rating of the generator must be 125

though generators rating in kva ,but station rating must be
in kw . because we have to exlpress the output power interms
of true power

All the loadd received by any generators is known by kilowatt i.e. kw bcose its a source of power . whoich I calculated in terms of kw The equipment rating is shown by kva & its depends upon the calculation whatever we used

in generating station power is not based on the power
factor but the generator based upon the connecting
load,that is apparent power.

Generators are also rated in KVA. In our general terms we use terms 30KW machine but actually technical rating of any generator is in KVA.
All equipment which can supply the power are rated in KVA, because their O/P power will depend on the load type you connect with it. 45 MVA machine can give as high as 36 MW power if you improve the PF or other machines are pumping enough reactive power in the network. Thus generator Watt will vary depending on the load same as the transformers. transformers too can operate on varying degree of the MW loads depending on the load connected.
Only electrical loads such as motor, heaters are mentioned in KW.

generater rating is in kw becoz losses in generator mainly
depends on voltage and current and not on nature of load....

Answer / gopal lal
bcoz of he load type is not fixed for any generation plant
Load to be depended in requirment of the client and
production of the plants. So dont rating KW of the any
generation plants.

how one can know the charging time, discharging time of a 12 VDC battery ? If i have a battery of 12 VDC , 4.0 AH , how long will it take to charge from a charger (power supply) of input 220 V , Output 15 V and output current of 3000 mA and how long will it take to discharge whether using or not ? How much backup will it give ?
