Answer / santosh kawade
Transformer neutral in distribution transformer is earthed
because:
1) Keep neutral at zero potential,
2) keep all three phase voltage balance even if load is
unbalance,
3) to provide return path for current in case of earth
fault condition,

as we all know that the distibution transformer has an
different loads on each phase even though we are try to
balance them there is no such an ideal case that each
transformer is ideally loaded....
in this scenario as the output of the transformer is star
connected there is a possibility to have a nutral current
in it if we not connect it to the ground then there is a
possibility to flow reverse current in the neutral which is
a very much problem...
i think this is the reason.....

grounding or earthing offers two principal advantages:
1- it provides protection to the power system.
2- earthing of electrical equipment ensures the safety of the persons handling the equipment.

Answer / gunasekaran
we have to keep the neutral at zero potential and we can get 3phase four wire system, normally in home appliances we r using single phase system.at earth fault condition without neutral another 2 phase getting full line voltage if it is earthed it will build only 80% line voltage will appear
